Traducción jurada, explicada

What is a sworn translation?

A sworn translation (traducción jurada) is an official translation into Spanish. It is signed and sealed by a Traductor-Intérprete Jurado: a sworn translator-interpreter appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (MAEC). Their signature and seal certify that the translation is complete and faithful to the original, so Spanish authorities accept it as an official document.

What's on a sworn translation

  1. The full translation

Everything on the original is translated: text, stamps, handwritten notes and the Apostille.

  2. The certification

A standard statement in which the sworn translator certifies that the translation is faithful and complete.

  3. Signature and seal

The translator signs and seals every page. The seal identifies the translator and their official appointment.

El recorrido

How it works

Five stops between your original and a Spanish version that authorities accept.

  1. Upload a scan or photo

Send a clear scan or phone photo of every page, including the back and any Apostille. PDF, JPG, PNG and HEIC all work.

  2. Receive a quote

We check the language, the number of pages and your deadline, then email you a quote with the price and delivery date.

  3. Translation by a sworn translator

A Traductor-Intérprete Jurado appointed by the MAEC translates the whole document, including stamps, signatures and the Apostille.

  4. Signature and seal

The translator signs and seals every page and adds the official certification. This is what makes the translation legally valid in Spain.

  5. Delivery

Receive a PDF with a qualified electronic signature by email, or the signed paper original by courier. Standard turnaround: [TURNAROUND __ DAYS].

    Preguntas frecuentes

    Questions, answered

Can't find your answer? Write to us.

Is a sworn translation valid in Spain?

Yes. A translation signed and sealed by a Traductor-Intérprete Jurado appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is an official translation. Spanish authorities, courts, registries, universities and notaries accept it. Some offices have extra requirements, such as an Apostille on the original, so it's worth confirming with the office that will receive your documents.

    Do I need an Apostille?

It depends on the country that issued your document. An Apostille is a certificate confirming that a public document is genuine, issued by countries in the 1961 Hague Convention. Countries outside the Convention use consular legalisation instead, and many EU documents need neither. Get the Apostille or legalisation before translation, because it has to be translated too. The Document Finder shows what usually applies.

Can you work from a scan or a phone photo?

Yes. A clear scan or photo of every page, including the back and any Apostille, is enough for us to quote and translate. The receiving authority may ask to see your original document together with the translation, so keep it safe.

    How long does it take?

Standard delivery takes [TURNAROUND __ DAYS] and urgent delivery [TURNAROUND __ DAYS], depending on the language and the number of pages. Your quote shows the exact delivery date before you confirm. Paper originals also need time for courier delivery.

Digital or paper: which do I need?

The digital version is a PDF signed with a qualified electronic signature. It suits online applications and authorities that accept electronic documents. The paper version is the original, signed by hand and sealed, sent by courier to offices that ask for physical documents. Acceptance of the digital format depends on the receiving authority, so check with them if you're unsure.
